Dallas Stars defeat New Jersey Devils 6-2, 1/20/24

The Dallas Stars played against the Devils at The Rock on Saturday, January 20th. The first period wasn't bad for the Devils... the second period went downhill for them, the Stars making constant goals. In the final period, the Devils were able to avoid being shutout by getting two goals in.

Dallas started the scoring - Joe Pavelski scored on the power play, a great pass by Jamie Benn five minutes into the game. This was Pavelski's 9th power-play goal of the season... also the Stars' sixth power-play goal in nine games. Joe Pavelski remains one of the top scorers for the Dallas Stars with 40 points in 45 games.

With an amazing short-handed goal, Roope Hintz gets the Stars in the lead 2-0 with his 19th of the season and 12:02 remaining in the middle frame. After a couple passes between Tyler Seguin and Matt Duchene, Duchene scores a slam dunk goal for a 3-0 lead. Hintz grabs up his second of the night and his 20th goal of the season late in the second period, a pass from Wyatt Johnston.

Craig Smith recorded his fifth goal of the season, a nice pass from Ty Dellandrea, making it a 5-0 lead for the Dallas Stars. Wyatt Johnston gets a beautiful goal, avoiding defenders and slipping it past Nico Daws.

The Devils put in two late goals for the final score - Jesper Bratt gets the first goal for New Jersey, getting his 17th goal of the season. Tyler Toffoli gets one late with 1:00 remaining... The final score was 6-2.

Roope Hintz on the Stars' comeback and the key to that: "It was good that everybody showed up today and we showed that we're coming back strong - It starts with good preparation and mentality when you're ready to play. So, I think we are ready to go."

"I think they just out-competed us today - It's not easy to win every battle, but it's got to be just better than tonight." Nico Hischier met with the media after the Devils' 6-2 loss against Dallas on Saturday.

Nico Hischier on injured players: "We're not using that as an excuse - It's about whoever is in the lineup here. We've proven that we can be a good team, and tonight we're just not the better team."
