Penguins Secure 2nd Straight Victory Against Flyers

  After dropping the first three games to the Philadelphia Flyers, the Pittsburgh Penguins are officially making things interesting. The Penguins secured their second straight victory in Game 5 on Monday at PPG Paints Arena, defeating the Flyers in a nail-biting 3-2 win to keep their season alive. Sidney Crosby fueled the comeback with a pair of assists, while Elmer Soderblom, Connor Dewar, and Kris Letang each found the back of the net. Following a 4-2 win in Game 4, Pittsburgh has now cut the series lead to 3-2 and will look to force a decisive Game 7 when they travel back to Philadelphia on Wednesday. Devils fall to the Hurricanes 3-2, 1/25/24

 






   The New Jersey Devils lost 3-2 against the Carolina Hurricanes at the PNC Arena on Thursday, January 25th. It was a rough game for the Devils, not able to get any shots in the net until the final period... making sure they didn't get shutout. However, it was a good win for the Hurricanes. After a 3-2 victory against the Boston Bruins the night before, they managed to get another win, two wins straight.

   Only 90 seconds into the first period, Sebastian Aho opens the scoring. Aho scored with a backhand shot past Nico Daws. The final score of the first frame was 1-0.


   Teuvo Teravainen nets one and makes the score 2-0... just 15 seconds in between, Jordan Staal scores by redirecting a shot from Brady Skjei. The Devils trail behind a 3-0 score...


   Scoring his first goal as a Devil, Justin Dowling scores with a beautiful pass by Alexander Holtz and gets the puck past Antti Raanta. A goal that was thought to be Jesper Bratt's turned out to be Tyler Toffoli's... Toffoli tipped in a shot by Bratt with just 2.3 seconds remaining in the final frame.



Notes:

- After the two goals in the second period by Carolina, Nico Daws was replaced by Vitek Vanecek for the remainder of the game.

- Devil's coach, Lindy Ruff, didn't return for the third period... He was held back after taking a puck to the face. Travis Green took his place.

- Travis Green said that Lindy Ruff was doing a bit better postgame

- Three Stars of the Game: Teuvo Teravainen, Antti Raanta, and Jordan Staal



Justin Dowling on contributing to helping the team: "It was huge for me. It's been over a year since I've been in the NHL. So, being able to come in and contribute, and do everything I can to help the team win was nice... It's just the hard work that you put into it. It's nice to get rewarded every once in a while."
