Flyers Trade Gauthier For Jamie Drysdale On The Ducks

Cutter Gauthier, selected 5th overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2022 NHL Draft, was traded to the Anaheim Ducks for Jamie Drysdale and a 2025 2nd-round NHL Draft pick on Monday.

Gauthier did not want to play for the Flyers, and it's unknown why that is.

Flyers GM (general manager), Daniel Briere: "We were hoping that, at some point, he'd change his mind, he had already changed his mind. He looked at us at the draft and told us he was built to be a Flyer and wanted to be a Flyer - A few months later, told us that he didn't want to be a Flyer and didn't want to play for the Flyers."

Daniel Briere spoke about how Gauthier's lack of enthusiasm to play for Philadelphia goes back as early as last May and talked about how they also don't know what Gauthier's reasoning is as to why he doesn't want to play for the Flyers.

Coach Tortorella speaking about Jamie Drysdale: "Just talked to Jamie - watched a lot of tape on him, and had discussions. We're really excited about the opportunity. A 21-year-old right-handed shot, we're going to put him on the power play right away, one of them. He's just starting, kid's head spinning right now. It's his first time at this, but we're really excited about the opportunity. I think it's a really good deal for us."

Defenseman, Jamie Drysdale, was selected 6th overall by the Anaheim Ducks in the 2020 NHL Draft. Drysdale has 45 points (8 goals, 27 assists) in 123 NHL games.

Cutter Gauthier has 23 points (13 goals, 10 assists) in 17 games for Boston College this season. He was also named the best forward at the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship due to his 12 points (2 goals, 10 assists) in 7 games to help the United States win the gold medal.

Coach Tortorella also spoke about Cutter Gauthier: "I don't know Cutter from a hole in the wall. I'm not too interested in talking about him. I'd rather talk about Jamie - he's the guy that's coming here."
