Hurricanes beat the Red Wings with a 4-2 score, 1/19/24

   The Red Wings played in Carolina against the Hurricanes on Friday, January 19th. Detroit's season-high seven-game point streak unfortunately ended with a 4-2 loss against the Hurricanes. The loss to Carolina also ended the 3-game win streak the Red Wings were going strong with, ruining their chance of getting a 5-game streak on their road trip. However, it was a good win for Carolina after their 5-2 loss against the Los Angeles Kings on Monday, January 15th.

   Detroit on the board first, Klim Kostin scores his third goal of the season, sneaking it through. Jordan Martinook gets one right back with his sixth goal of the season and tying the game 1-1.


   Martin Necas sniped a shot from the faceoff circle, top right, scoring his 10th goal of the season. The Red Wings did not give up, J.T. Compher strikes his 10th goal of the season with 42.1 seconds left - The Red Wings and Hurricanes end the second period with another tie, 2-2.


   On the power play, Andrei Svechnikov nets one with his 11th goal of the season. Sebastian Aho strikes his 16th of the season with an empty-netter. The Hurricanes win with a 4-2 score.



Notes:

- Martin Necas returned to the lineup after missing five games due to an upper-body injury.

- Shayne Gostisbehere leads all Detroit Red Wings defenseman in assists (24), points (34), and power-play points (19)

- Ben Chiarot left in third period, not returning due to an upper-body injury

- Jake Walman returned to the lineup after missing the past three games due to illness

- Jeff Petry played his 900th career NHL game



Martin Necas on being back and the Hurricanes win on Friday: "It feels like a new season. So let's make it a better one and good win for us. It's all good to be back."



Antti Raanta on the Hurricanes 4-2 win: "A win is a win. So it doesn't really matter if you get 50 saves or five saves. If you can get the win, that's the only thing that matters - Right now the W's are the only thing I'm caring about and if we can get that, at least you did your job."
