Patrick Kane Returns to Chicago, Two-Year Deal

  On Thursday, the Chicago Blackhawks agreed to terms with former star forward Patrick Kane on a two-year, $16 million contract that includes a no-move clause. Patrick Kane played the first of his 19 NHL seasons with Chicago, winning the Stanley Cup three times in Chicago in 2010, 2013, and 2015. He has made it to the Stanley Cup Playoffs 11 times in his career, earning 138 points (53 goals, 85 assists) in 143 postseason games. Kane ranks third in franchise history in assists (80), points (132), and games played (136), and ranks fourth in goals (52). Last season with the Detroit Red Wings, the 37-year-old forward had 57 points (16 goals, 41 assists) in 67 games. He finished fourth on the Red Wings with 16 goals and 41 assists, ranking fifth with 57 points. Lightning 4-game win streak, Waltteri Merela 1st NHL goal 1/18/24

 






   The Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Minnesota Wild 7-3 on Thursday, January 18th. Tampa Bay maintained a strong lead after they tied the game 3-3 and came out with the fourth win of their win streak starting from their 3-2 overtime win against the Los Angeles Kings on January 9th. The Lightning had a short break after their 5-1 win against the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday and came back to get another win.

   The first period ended in a 1-1 tie - Joel Eriksson Ek gets Minnesota in the lead first, scoring his 18th goal of the season with 14:43 remaining in the first period. Victor Hedman ties up the game with his 8th goal of the season less than a minute after the Minnesota goal. Hedman passed Brad Richards to take sole possession of eighth all-time in Tampa Bay Lightning history with 151 goals.


   Anthony Cirelli strikes his 9th of the season early in the middle frame with one second left on their power play. Waltteri Merela gets the Lightning a 3-2 score, getting his first NHL goal with 16:40 remaining in the second period. Jacob Middleton's shot stopped at the skate of Marco Rossi who tipped the puck into the crease of the Bolts' net, getting his 13th of the season. Brayden Point gives Tampa Bay a two-goal lead with 7:19 remaining. Jacob Middleton gets one with just 15 seconds left in the second period, getting the score to 4-3.


   Steven Stamkos scores on the power play, getting his 19th goal of the season. Nikita Kucherov's assist on Stamkos' goal got him to 500 career assists and became the fourth in team history to achieve this milestone. Michael Eyssimont jammed the puck into Minnesota's net, getting his 7th of the season. Anthony Cirelli scores his second of the night with just over two minutes remaining in the final frame, also getting his 10th goal of the season.

- Kucherov is behind Connor McDavid (527 GP) and Sidney Crosby (554 GP) with 500 Career Assists
