Tampa Bay continues their new win streak, defeating the Devils 6-3 1/27/24

 






   The Devils lost 6-3 against the Lightning in Tampa Bay at the Amalie Arena on Saturday, January 27th. It was an unfortunate loss for the Devils before the NHL All-Star break... however, it was a good win for Tampa Bay as they have won three games straight since they broke their five-game win streak.

   The first period was completely scoreless... 0-0.


   Nick Paul started the scoring for the Lightning early into the middle frame. Paul redirected a shot from the point by Victor Hedman, he shot from in front of the net, and the puck got past Vitek Vanecek... making it a 1-0 game. Just a bit over nine minutes later, Brandon Hagel strikes his 15th goal of the season. The final score of the second period was 2-0.


   Scoring the first New Jersey goal of the game early in the third period, Ondrej Palat scored his sixth goal of the season. The Lightning answered back only a minute after - Steven Stamkos scored on the rebound off a shot from Nick Perbix. Jesper Bratt strikes back a little less than four minutes after the goal by Stamkos, giving the Devils a 3-2 score. Extending the Tampa Bay lead, Brayden Point jumped on a shot by Kevin Bahl and got it past Vanecek. Holy Toffoli! Tyler Toffoli got one in at the side of the net and scored his 21st of the season. The Lightning strikes back with two empty-netters - Brandon Hagel gets the first one in the empty net 59 seconds later with his second goal of the night... Brayden Point adds the second empty-netter 45 seconds after and wraps it up with a 6-3 score.



Notes:

- Victor Hedman hit 700 points... Hedman is the first defenseman in franchise history to reach 700+ and he ranks fifth in points with the Lightning

- 300 NHL games for John Marino

- 100 NHL games for Justin Dowling

- Tyler Toffoli hit 500 career points



Nico Hischier on the upcoming break and what he's hoping can come out of it: "I hope everybody rests up a bit and thinks about what team they want to be a part of coming down the stretch. If we want to be a playoff team, we have to figure something out."
