Penguins Secure 2nd Straight Victory Against Flyers

  After dropping the first three games to the Philadelphia Flyers, the Pittsburgh Penguins are officially making things interesting. The Penguins secured their second straight victory in Game 5 on Monday at PPG Paints Arena, defeating the Flyers in a nail-biting 3-2 win to keep their season alive. Sidney Crosby fueled the comeback with a pair of assists, while Elmer Soderblom, Connor Dewar, and Kris Letang each found the back of the net. Following a 4-2 win in Game 4, Pittsburgh has now cut the series lead to 3-2 and will look to force a decisive Game 7 when they travel back to Philadelphia on Wednesday. The Islanders fall to the Canadiens 4-3, 1/25/24

   The Islanders visited the Montreal Canadiens and unfortunately lost 4-3 on Thursday, January 25th. It was a close win for either of the two teams and both played great!

   Nick Suzuki gets one past Semyon Varlamov on the power play, scoring his 13th goal of the season. Suzuki finished off a passing play with Monahan and Slafkovsky. Cole Caufield made it a 2-0 game, tucking a shot past Varlamv glove side. Sean Monahan scores his 12th of the season on the power play.


   Getting the Islanders on the board, Bo Horvat scored his 20th goal on the power play to cut it to 3-1 early into the middle frame.


   Mat Barzal cut the lead to 3-2 with a great shot over Samuel Montembeault's left shoulder at a sharp angle. Barzal scored the second power-play goal for the New York Islanders. Tying up the game 3-3, Kyle Palmieri scored on the left side of the net. Palmieri had redirected a shot by Noah Dobson from the point. Sean Monahan scored and made it a 4-3 final score. Monahan shot the puck from the high slot, a feed from Josh Anderson.



Notes:

- Sean Monahan had two goals and an assist

- Nick Suzuki had one goal and an assist

- Sam Montembeault made 43 saves for Montreal

- Cole Caufield has 10 points during an eight-game point streak

- Semyon Varlamov made 22 saves in his first start since he sustained a lower-body injury on the  2nd of January.
