Toronto Maple Leafs defeats Seattle Kraken 3-1, 1/21/24

   The Maple Leafs played against the Kraken in Seattle at the Climate Pledge Arena on Sunday, January 21st. Toronto got a great win, heading home with a 3-1 win. After a 6-4 loss against the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday, it was a good comeback for Toronto.

   Auston Matthews strikes his league-leading goal, 38th, and puts the Maple Leafs in a 1-0 lead with 12:54 remaining in the first period. Matthews scored his fifth goal in the past four games... grabbing up a pass from Mitch Marner and sliding a shot past Joey Daccord. Matthews' goal marks the 57th time in his career scoring the game-opening goal.


   Getting the Maple Leafs a 2-0 lead, Nicholas Robertson scored his seventh goal of the season early in the second period. Jordan Eberle keeps Seattle in with his seventh goal of the season, avoiding being shutout just under six minutes remaining.


   Jake McCabe strikes the Kraken empty-net with his fourth goal of the season. The final score was 3-1.



Notes:

- Jordan Eberle has three goals and two assists in his past five games

- Matty Beniers and Vince Dunn are still out with injuries... Yanni Gourde is out due to a two-game suspension for charging

- The Seattle Kraken now has a 4-game losing streak

- Ilya Samsonov got his first win since early December



Auston Matthews on the Maple Leafs 3-1 win and Samsonov: "I thought we had a good start, which was, I think really important for us tonight. Getting off on the right foot and just rolling all four lines - He made some unbelievable saves and just looked really confident, really poisoned there."



Ilya Samsonov on his difficult stretch: "Probably the hardest in my life... but life is moving forward. I'm staying positive - I'm just focused on today and on the moment, day by day."
