Patrick Kane Returns to Chicago, Two-Year Deal

  On Thursday, the Chicago Blackhawks agreed to terms with former star forward Patrick Kane on a two-year, $16 million contract that includes a no-move clause. Patrick Kane played the first of his 19 NHL seasons with Chicago, winning the Stanley Cup three times in Chicago in 2010, 2013, and 2015. He has made it to the Stanley Cup Playoffs 11 times in his career, earning 138 points (53 goals, 85 assists) in 143 postseason games. Kane ranks third in franchise history in assists (80), points (132), and games played (136), and ranks fourth in goals (52). Last season with the Detroit Red Wings, the 37-year-old forward had 57 points (16 goals, 41 assists) in 67 games. He finished fourth on the Red Wings with 16 goals and 41 assists, ranking fifth with 57 points. Kane is one of two active NHL players (Alex Ovechkin) to secure 40-or-more points in each of the last 19 seasons and is one of just 19 players to do so in NHL history. Alexis Lafreniere wins it in overtime 2-1 for the Rangers against the Avalanche, 2/5/24

   A second win straight for the New York Rangers after the NHL All-Star weekend. The Colorado Avalanche played against the Rangers in New York at the Madison Square Garden on Monday, February 5th. It was a one-goal lead for the Avalanche until the third period... both Colorado and New York went into overtime with a 1-1 tie.

   Opening the scoring early into the first period - Nathan MacKinnon gets the Avalanche in the lead with his 32nd goal of the season. Cale Makar passed the puck to MacKinnon from the defensive zone and MacKinnon beat Jonathan Quick with a wrist shot from the right circle. In the second period, the Avalanche kept their one-goal lead.


   Artemi Panarin strikes his 31st goal of the season with 8:43 remaining in the third period. Panarin skated up the left wing after having the puck behind the net, then held off Cale Makar as he cut across the point, and scored a wrist shot. They stay in a 1-1 tie, heading into overtime to wrap it up.


   Jonathan Quick cleared the puck and set New York off on the rush, and Mika Zibanejad dropped the puck back for Alexis Lafreniere. Lafreniere stayed put in the left face-off circle and scored a wrist shot, getting his 13th goal of the season and winning the game for the Rangers.



Notes:

- Nathan MacKinnon has a 14-game point streak and has 12 points in his last four games. MacKinnon recorded his 85th point of the season - the most by an Avalanche/Nordiques player through their first 50 games played.

- Alexandar Georgiev made 27 saves for the Avalanche

- Jonathan Quick made 31 saves for the Rangers

- Peter Laviolette became the 7th among head coaches in NHL history with 783 wins
