Patrick Kane Returns to Chicago, Two-Year Deal

  On Thursday, the Chicago Blackhawks agreed to terms with former star forward Patrick Kane on a two-year, $16 million contract that includes a no-move clause. Patrick Kane played the first of his 19 NHL seasons with Chicago, winning the Stanley Cup three times in Chicago in 2010, 2013, and 2015. He has made it to the Stanley Cup Playoffs 11 times in his career, earning 138 points (53 goals, 85 assists) in 143 postseason games. Kane ranks third in franchise history in assists (80), points (132), and games played (136), and ranks fourth in goals (52). Last season with the Detroit Red Wings, the 37-year-old forward had 57 points (16 goals, 41 assists) in 67 games. He finished fourth on the Red Wings with 16 goals and 41 assists, ranking fifth with 57 points. Kane is one of two active NHL players (Alex Ovechkin) to secure 40-or-more points in each of the last 19 seasons and is one of just 19 players to do so in NHL history. Avalanche Hands the Coyotes Their Ninth Loss Straight 4-3, Nathan MacKinnon Extends Home Streak to 26 2/18/24

   The Colorado Avalanche handed the Arizona Coyotes their ninth straight loss on Sunday, February 18th at the Ball Arena. Nathan MacKinnon extended his season-opening home point streak to 26 games. MacKinnon passed Bobby Orr (1974-75, Boston Bruins) for the second-longest to start a season in NHL history... Wayne Gretzky owns the record with 40 games (1988-89, Los Angeles Kings). Nathan MacKinnon has a total of 55 points during his home streak (22 goals, 33 assists).

   Ross Colton struck first to get his 12th goal of the season and gave Colorado the lead. Colton got a pass from Miles Wood when he was cutting the net before he scored five-hole. Tying the game 1-1, Matt Dumba scored on a rebound of a shot from Alex Kerfoot. Lawson Crouse pushed it to 2-1 to put Arizona ahead on the power play. He kicked a centering pass from Matias Maccelli to his stick, beating Alexandar Georgiev blocker side afterwards... Crouse recorded his 100th career goal.


   Scoring his third goal of the season to tie it back up - Jack Johnson scored with a wrist shot after skating down the right wing, the shot went under the glove of Karel Vejmelka at 15:40 of the second period. Logan Cooley put the Coyotes back on top with a snipe, getting his eighth of the season from the high slot on a 4-on-2 rush... beating Alexander Georgiev glove side. Jamming a rebound of his own, Nathan MacKinnon (Nate The Great) tied the game back up just 21 seconds later.


   With just 6:43 remaining in the final frame, Devon Toews puts Colorado back in the lead with his 10th goal of the season. He took a touch pass from Jonathan Drouin and from above the circles, he struck a wrist shot through a screen for the 4-3 final.




Notes:

- Nathan MacKinnon had a goal and an assist... Jack Johnson had a goal and an assist, and Bowen Byram recorded two assists.

  MacKinnon had 91 points in 56 games this season (33 goals, 58 assists)... He is the fastest player to reach 90 points in a season in Avalanche/Quebec Nordiques history since Peter Stastny (1987-88, 56 games)

- Matt Dumba had a goal and an assist, Matias Maccelli recorded two assists... Juuso Valimaki hit 200 NHL games

- Alexandar Georgiev made 27 saves for Colorado and Karel Vejmelka made 33 saves for Arizona.
