Kadirova, Elridge Each Score Two, Torrent Falls 4-3 To Charge

  Photo via Seattle Torrent/PWHL The Torrent suffered their fourth straight loss when they took on the Ottawa Charge on Wednesday at TD Place, losing 4-3. Seattle came alive in the second period behind two goals from Jessie Eldridge. Alex Carpenter, who made history scoring the first-ever penalty shot goal in PWHL history, tied the game before Ottawa took the lead back with little time to play. Fanuza Kadirova found the back of the net twice for the Charge. Alexa Vasko and Emily Clark also scored to help secure the victory. The Torrent will look to regroup before hosting the Boston Fleet on March 11, while the Charge travel to the Prudential Center on Sunday for a showdown with the New York Sirens. Boone Jenner Scored Late Goal to get Columbus the 4-3 Win, 2/17/24

   The Columbus Blue Jackets defeated the San Jose Sharks with a 4-3 score on Saturday, February 17th. Boone Jenner scored with just 12 seconds remaining in the third period to avoid overtime. The Sharks have lost their 39th game of this season... only winning 15 of their games.

   The San Jose Sharks opened the scoring - Anthony Duclair gave the Sharks a 1-0 lead early into the first period. Duclair scored on a breakaway, getting a five-hole. Zach Werenski tied it 1-1 later into the period with a snap shot, coming from the top of the right circle, and beat Kaapo Kahkonen up high... recording his first goal since October 20th. Soon after Werenski's goal, Kirill Marchenko put the Blue Jackets ahead 2-1 from the right face-off circle.


   It appeared that Johnny Gaudreau scored in the second period, however, San Jose successfully challenged it for offside. Dmitri Voronkov pushed it to 3-1 for Columbus, he scored off a rebound in front. Voronkov is second among all rookies with 14 goals, Connor Bedard is first among all rookies with 16. Anthony Duclair scored his second goal of the night and his 11th of the season after he had taken a centering pass on the rush from Fabian Zetterlund. At 4:31 of the middle frame, Zetterlund tied the game 3-3 after being set up with a cross-ice pass for a one-timer from the left dot.


   Boone Jenner struck his 17th goal of the season with 12 seconds remaining in the third period to avoid overtime and got a 4-3 final.




Notes:

- Johnny Gaudreau has had six assists in the last five games and 20 points in the last 22 games... He also had two assists vs. the Tampa Bay Lightning on February 10th.

- Erik Gudbranson, Yegor Chinakhov, and Johnny Gaudreau each recorded two assists.

- Elvis Merzlikins made 28 saves for Columbus... Kaapo Kahkonen made 37 saves for San Jose

- Anthony Duclair scored two goals... Fabian Zetterlund had a goal and an assist, Calen Addison recorded two assists.

- The Detroit Red Wings and the Columbus Blue Jackets will be playing in the 2025 Stadium Series game on March 1st at the Ohio Stadium.
