Linus Ullmark first shutout of the season in a 4-0 win against the Canucks, 2/8/24

The Vancouver Canucks played against the Bruins in Boston at the TD Garden on Thursday, February 8th. The Bruins put an end to the Canucks' 12-game point streak in a 4-0 win... Linus Ullmark got his first shutout of the season and the seventh of his NHL career.

Just 32 seconds into the first period - Brad Marchand gave Boston a 1-0 lead. Charlie Coyle picked up the puck after a misplayed pass and centered the puck to Marchand, who scored a short-handed goal. Danton Heinen scored a short-handed goal to make it a 2-0 score... Heinen split Quinn Hughes and Elias Pettersson to finish up the breakaway.

Within 15 seconds into the middle frame, the Bruins scored twice. Morgan Geekie scored after a crazy shot by David Pastrnak... the puck took an awkward bounce off Geekie's stick, then got poked in by Canucks defenseman Tyler Myers. Pavel Zacha stuck his 12th goal of the season to push it to a 4-0 lead. Zacha scored from the slot at 49 seconds off a pass from James van Riemsdyk. The Bruins keep their 4-0 score throughout the remainder of the game.

Notes:

- Brad Marchand is ninth in the top 10 most shorthanded goals in NHL history

- Linus Ullmark made 17 saves for Boston

- The Bruins now tied the Canucks atop the NHL standings (73 points)

- Pavel Zacha had a goal and an assist

- Both Brad Marchand and Danton Heinen scored a shorthanded goal

- David Pastrnak and Charlie Coyle each recorded two assists

- Thatcher Demko made 21 saves for Vancouver

Additional Note(s):

- Matthew Poitras, Boston Bruins rookie, had a successful right shoulder surgery on February 7th. The expected recovery time is around five months... Poitras may not be able to return for the remainder of the season, unfortunately.

It is believed Poitras sustained the injury during a game against the Arizona Coyotes on January 9th... He had left with less than three minutes into the final period after taking a hit from Coyotes defenseman, Sean Durzi, in the offensive zone along the boards.

Quinn Hughes on the Canucks' 4-0 loss against the Boston Bruins: "We just move on and focus on the next day - As far as tomorrow, I'm sure we'll talk about it for 15-20 minutes and then move on, probably have a good practice and try to have a better effort in Detroit."
