Kadirova, Elridge Each Score Two, Torrent Falls 4-3 To Charge

  Photo via Seattle Torrent/PWHL The Torrent suffered their fourth straight loss when they took on the Ottawa Charge on Wednesday at TD Place, losing 4-3. Seattle came alive in the second period behind two goals from Jessie Eldridge. Alex Carpenter, who made history scoring the first-ever penalty shot goal in PWHL history, tied the game before Ottawa took the lead back with little time to play. Fanuza Kadirova found the back of the net twice for the Charge. Alexa Vasko and Emily Clark also scored to help secure the victory. The Torrent will look to regroup before hosting the Boston Fleet on March 11, while the Charge travel to the Prudential Center on Sunday for a showdown with the New York Sirens. Islanders 6-2 win against the Lightning, 2/8/24

 






   The New York Islanders defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning with a 6-2 score on Thursday, February 8th. This was the Islanders' second win straight, starting with a 3-2 win against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday, February 5th.

   Noah Dobson gave New York the 1-0 lead in the first frame. Dobson tried to feed Oliver Wahlstrom at the blocker side post, coming from the right face-off dot... however, the puck brushed in off Lightning defenseman Erik Cernak. Nikita Kucherov tied up the game 1-1 at 13:18 of the first period. His shot was deflected in the high slot before it got past Ilya Sorokin to the blocker side. Breaking the tie, Mat Barzal strikes his 15th goal of the season with a backhanded shot short side from the low slot. Kyle Palmieri pushed it to a 3-1 lead before the end of the first frame. Palmieri scored off a pass from Mike Reilly.


   Scoring the second and final goal for Tampa Bay - Brandon Hagel scored early into the middle frame on a power play. Hagel scored on a rebound after Anthony Cirelli's shot had been saved by Ilya Sorokin. Ryan Pulock gave the Islanders the 4-2 lead on the power play. Pulock struck his third goal of the season with a slap shot from the inside of the blue line, went off glove-side post, and went in. Bo Horvat scored a one-timer to make it 5-2 soon after Pulock's goal. Scoring the sixth goal for New York - Casey Cizikas scored his sixth goal of the season short side from the low slot for a 6-2 final.




Notes:

- Bo Horvat and Mat Barzal both had a goal and an assist

- Ilya Sorokin made 18 saves for New York

- Mat Barzal extended his point streak to four games (6 points; three goals, three assists)

- Kyle Palmieri recorded 5 points in his past four games

- Noah Dobson ended his 15-game drought

- Casey Cizikas returned to the lineup after missing the past 10 games due to a lower-body injury.

- Nikita Kucherov extended his point streak to six games (11 points; five goals, six assists)

- Nikita Kucherov leads the NHL with 87 points (33 goals, 54 assists)

- Jonas Johansson made 18 saves for Tampa Bay




Mat Barzal on the Islanders' 6-2 win against the Tampa Bay Lightning: "We felt good about the game... I thought we did a good job regardless of the score - It feels good, that's how you get rolling. The guys feel good and we're feeling confident."
