Jerez Preview: Can Anyone Stop the #72?

Lately, Marco Bezzecchi is making winning look easy. With a flawless hat trick of victories in Thailand, Brazil, and the USA, the #72 has treated the early-season standings like his own personal victory lap. Next stop: Jerez. Will the win streak continue in Spain, or can anyone actually disrupt the rhythm of Bez? The "Global Takeover" in Three Acts: Thailand: To open the season in Buriram, Bezzecchi converted a dominant pole position into a Sunday masterclass. Every lap was led by him, crossing the finish line with a 5.5-second cushion over Pedro Acosta, setting the tone for a flawless start to the season. Brazil: In a treacherous race in Goiânia that was shortened due to track degradation concerns, Bez pulled an ambush at the first corner. He kept his cool on a track that felt more like a gravel pit than a circuit, bringing home back-to-back wins from second on the grid. USA: At COTA - the most technical track they face - Bezzecchi proved he could win anywhere. He...

Jack Hughes is back tonight to play against the Calgary Flames, 2/8/24

Jack Hughes has been out for over a month due to an upper-body injury. Hughes had sustained the injury on January 5th against the Chicago Blackhawks... this also being the same game Connor Bedard had been injured before Hughes took an awkward fall.

He missed a total of 11 games since sustaining the injury. Hughes did take part in the morning skate prior to the Devils' 5-3 win against the Colorado Avalanche but unfortunately didn't get to play.

Jack Hughes also was unable to participate in the 2024 NHL All-Star Game in Toronto. He was the co-captain for Team Hughes with his brother, Vancouver Canucks defenseman and captain, Quinn Hughes. However, Jack had been replaced by Jesper Bratt. Hughes was able to participate in the All-Star player draft with both Quinn Hughes and Elias Pettersson before returning to New Jersey.

Thursday morning, February 8th - Jack Hughes was out on the ice for the Devils' morning skate wearing a regular jersey rather than the non-contact jersey. Hughes skated with Alexander Holtz and Tyler Toffoli (who missed the last game due to illness).

Jack Hughes on returning to the lineup to take on the Calgary Flames and his injury: "Excited, ready to get back out there. It just didn't feel right, obviously feeling better now. I'm excited to play tonight."

Hughes on the Devils' big 5-3 win after the NHL All-Star break against the Avalanche: "Played really well last game and definitely a big win coming out of the break. Hopefully, we can ride that, piece together a bunch of wins, and make a serious push here."
