Nick Paul started the scoring at 15:48 of the first period to give Tampa Bay the lead just two seconds after a power play had expired. Extending the Lightning lead to 2-0, Nikita Kucherov scored a one-timer at 14:26 from the point, off a feed from Victor Hedman, and it deflected off Adam Pelech. It remained a 2-0 score through the rest of the first period.

Early into the second period at 15:00, Brayden Point made it a 3-0 game on the power play. The remainder of the game was scoreless, the Lightning securing that lead.

Anders Lee put the Islanders on the board 3-1 late into the third frame. He scored from the top of the crease when Ilya Sorokin was pulled for an extra attacker. Cutting it 3-2 on the power play, Brock Nelson scored his 25th of the season from the right face-off circle, Sorokin still out for an extra attacker. Luke Glendening struck the empty net with 30 seconds remaining for the 4-2 final.
