Penguins Secure 2nd Straight Victory Against Flyers

  After dropping the first three games to the Philadelphia Flyers, the Pittsburgh Penguins are officially making things interesting. The Penguins secured their second straight victory in Game 5 on Monday at PPG Paints Arena, defeating the Flyers in a nail-biting 3-2 win to keep their season alive. Sidney Crosby fueled the comeback with a pair of assists, while Elmer Soderblom, Connor Dewar, and Kris Letang each found the back of the net. Following a 4-2 win in Game 4, Pittsburgh has now cut the series lead to 3-2 and will look to force a decisive Game 7 when they travel back to Philadelphia on Wednesday. Ottawa Senators win four games straight, Brady Tkachuk records his second career hat trick in a 6-3 win 2/13/24

   The Ottawa Senators defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday, February 13th with a 6-3 score. Brady Tkachuk recorded his second career hat trick and Anton Forsberg made 37 saves for Ottawa in his first win back from missing 11 games straight due to injury. The Senators played with only five defensemen because Artem Zub was unable to play due to a lower-body injury.

   Dmitri Voronkov kicked things off in Ottawa with his 13th goal of the season to give Columbus a 1-0 lead. A centering pass from Kent Johnson skipped off Voronkov's stick before hitting Jacob Benard-Docker's skate, deflecting into the net. Brady Tkachuk tied it 1-1 on the power play after finishing a tic-tac-toe passing play... Tkachuk struck again just 48 seconds later, batting his own rebound out of the air during a 2-on-1 rush. Pushing it 3-1, Claude Giroux scored a shorthanded goal during a 2-on-1 rush with a wrist shot to the top right corner.


   Ridly Greig extends Ottawa's lead to 4-1 in the second period. Vladimir Tarasenko shot a point shot and Greig tipped it in. Boone Jenner cut it 4-2, beating Anton Forsberg glove side. Jenner shot from the top of the left face-off circle with a wrist shot. Getting Columbus another soon after, Jack Roslovic scored a wrist shot from a sharp angle, getting his third goal of the season. Brady Tkachuk made it a two-goal lead for Ottawa scoring his third of the game for a second career hat trick. Tkachuk shot from the top of the crease off a pass from Claude Giroux on the power play to make it 5-3.


   Late into the final frame, Erik Brannstrom called it wraps with an empty-netter for the 6-3 final.




Notes:

- Yegor Chinakov was out due to an upper-body injury

- Claude Giroux had a goal and two assists

- Dmitri Voronokov has scored 13 goals this season, trailing both Connor Bedard (15) and Marco Rossi (14) for the lead among NHL rookies

- Brady Tkachuk reached 319 NHL points, passing Alexei Yashun (317) for third-most before the age of 25 in Ottawa Senators history.

- Daniil Tarasov made 24 saves for Columbus
