Patrick Kane Returns to Chicago, Two-Year Deal

  On Thursday, the Chicago Blackhawks agreed to terms with former star forward Patrick Kane on a two-year, $16 million contract that includes a no-move clause. Patrick Kane played the first of his 19 NHL seasons with Chicago, winning the Stanley Cup three times in Chicago in 2010, 2013, and 2015. He has made it to the Stanley Cup Playoffs 11 times in his career, earning 138 points (53 goals, 85 assists) in 143 postseason games. Kane ranks third in franchise history in assists (80), points (132), and games played (136), and ranks fourth in goals (52). Last season with the Detroit Red Wings, the 37-year-old forward had 57 points (16 goals, 41 assists) in 67 games. He finished fourth on the Red Wings with 16 goals and 41 assists, ranking fifth with 57 points. Kane is one of two active NHL players (Alex Ovechkin) to secure 40-or-more points in each of the last 19 seasons and is one of just 19 players to do so in NHL history. Rangers defeat the Lightning 3-1 for a third straight win, 2/7/24

 






   The Tampa Bay Lightning played against the Rangers in New York at the Madison Square Garden on Wednesday, February 7th. The Rangers extended their win streak to three games after getting a 3-1 win against the Lightning.

   The first period was completely scoreless... 0-0.


   Opening the scoring and getting New York on the board first - Jimmy Vesey strikes his 10th goal of the season. Vesey scored with a backhand shot from the right face-off circle low and got the puck over Andrei Vasilevskiy's left shoulder. Later into the middle frame, Jonny Brodzinski gets the Rangers in a 2-0 lead. Brodzinski scored a one-timer from the right circle after getting the pass from Chris Kreider.


   Scoring the first and unfortunately only goal for Tampa Bay - Brandon Hagel cut the Rangers lead for a 2-1 score. Hagel scored from the hash marks after Nikita Kucherov carried the puck up to the blue line and dropped it for Erik Cernak to grab it up, who ended up leaving it in the left circle... Hagel found it in the middle and struck his 17th goal of the season. Jimmy Vesey scored an empty-netter with little time left in the final frame to wrap it up with a 3-1 final.



Notes:

- Jonathan Quick made 18 saves for New York

- Jimmy Vesey scored two goals for the Rangers (49 GP  11 Goals  5 Assists  16 Points)

- Lightning defenseman, Mikhail Sergachev, was taken off the ice on a stretcher after his left leg awkwardly bent underneath him as he was going for a hit on Alexis Lafreniere.

- This was Mikhail Sergachev's first game back after missing 17 games since December 19th with a lower-body injury...

- With his assist on Brandon Hagel's goal, Nikita Kucherov takes the lead with 86 points (50 GP  32 Goals  54 Assists  86 Points)... one more than Nathan MacKinnon on the Colorado Avalanche.

- Andrei Vasilevskiy made 21 saves for Tampa Bay
