Kadirova, Elridge Each Score Two, Torrent Falls 4-3 To Charge

  Photo via Seattle Torrent/PWHL The Torrent suffered their fourth straight loss when they took on the Ottawa Charge on Wednesday at TD Place, losing 4-3. Seattle came alive in the second period behind two goals from Jessie Eldridge. Alex Carpenter, who made history scoring the first-ever penalty shot goal in PWHL history, tied the game before Ottawa took the lead back with little time to play. Fanuza Kadirova found the back of the net twice for the Charge. Alexa Vasko and Emily Clark also scored to help secure the victory. The Torrent will look to regroup before hosting the Boston Fleet on March 11, while the Charge travel to the Prudential Center on Sunday for a showdown with the New York Sirens. Bruins Lose Two Straight, 3-2 Against Philadelphia Flyers 3/23/24

   The Bruins took on the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday, March 23rd at the Wells Fargo Center in hopes of a victory after their 5-2 loss at home against the New York Rangers. Unfortunately, the Bruins took their second straight loss, but they definitely put in a lot more effort in this game than the previous one. It was a close game, the Flyers securing a 3-2 victory to make up for the overtime loss they had on Thursday against the Carolina Hurricanes.

   Throughout the first period, it remained scoreless. The Bruins and the Flyers headed into a one-goal middle frame, and then into a four-goal third period.


   Travis Konecny opened the scoring late into the second at 1:45 on the power play. Tyson Foerster fumbled the shot when he received the puck from Scott Laughton, who centered it to him after Ryan Poehling had grabbed a loose puck at the right point before passing it down the wall to Laughton - the puck ended up rolling to Konecny, and he scored from the post on the left side to put Philadelphia in a 1-0 lead.


   Tying the game 1-1 and putting Boston on the board at 9:41, Justin Brazeau scored his fifth NHL goal for the Bruins and his fourth in the past three games. He defeated Samuel Ersson with a backhand after skating through the crease. At 4:44, Travis Konecny struck his second of the game and his 29th goal of the season to put the Flyers back on top when he sent a shot through a screen from the right face-off circle. Danton Heinen tied it back up to 2-2 at 3:48 off a seam pass by Morgan Geekie, sending a one-timer from the left into the net. With 1:29 left in regulation, Tyson Foerster scored the game-winner for Philadelphia when he beat Linus Ullmark over his glove off the rush from the left face-off circle for the 3-2 final.




Justin Brazeau on comeback mentality and the game: "I think just belief in this group. I don't think at any point in the game we thought we were going to lose it. I was pretty confident we were going to win throughout the game. So, it's obviously nice being in here with these guys. They've all won before and you just kind of feed off that."


Andrew Peeke on the loss against the Philadelphia Flyers: "The effort was there from both sides, it was like one of those playoff-type games. They're fighting to get in, and obviously want a position where we want points too. It was just a tight-checking game and they got that last one with 1:30 left, so that was the closing deal."




Notes:

- Justin Brazeau scored his fourth goal in the past three games straight. Linus Ullmark made a total of 26 saves for Boston.

- David Pastrnak's eight-game point streak against the Philadelphia Flyers was put to an end (11 goals, seven assists)

- Morgan Geekie hit the 100 NHL career points mark.

- Travis Konecny scored two goals, getting to his 30th of the season. Samuel Ersson made a total of 18 saves for Philadelphia.

   Konecny is the first player for the Philadelphia Flyers with continuous 30-goal seasons since Sean Couturier 2017-18 and 2018-19.

- Both Morgan Frost and Owen Tippett assisted Travis Konecny's second goal, extending their point streaks. Frost has eight points during an NHL-best six-game streak (three goals, five assists), and Tippett has nine points during a six-game streak (three goals, six assists)

- Sean Couturier was a healthy scratch for the past two games, finally returning to the lineup to take on the Bruins. In 13:09 of ice time, he had one shot on goal and won four of eight face-offs.
