The Bruins defeated the Carolina Hurricanes at the PNC Arena on Thursday, April 4th to collect their third straight win. Brad Marchand scored his 400th NHL goal and Jeremy Swayman made 28 saves for Boston in their 4-1 victory. The Hurricanes were only able to get one goal past Swayman, the goal being scored by Jake Guentzel, and Frederik Andersen made a total of 24 saves for Carolina. After two straight shutouts, it had been an unfortunate loss for Carolina, however, it was a great two points for the Bruins.

Early into the first period at 17:48, Brad Marchand recorded his 400th NHL career goal to give the Bruins an early 1-0 lead. Marchand crammed a backhand past Frederik Andersen after taking a stretch pass from Morgan Geekie through the middle of the ice. David Pastrnak increased the lead to 2-0 at 12:18 with his 47th goal of the season and extended his point streak to three games (two goals, three assists). He went top cheddar short side after he skated in from the left side boards close to the goal line. Danton Heinen went for the 3-0 lead at 9:14 when Pastrnak thrashed the puck to him around Seth Jarvis, and Heinen scored off the redirection.
Jake Guentzel scored the one and only goal for Carolina when he cut it to 3-1 late in the middle frame at 4:48. It had been Guentzel's 25th goal of the season, and his third with the Hurricanes since being traded. He scored during a 5-on-3 when he batted the puck past Jeremy Swayman near the right post.
Late in the third when Carolina had an empty net for the extra attacker - Hampus Lindholm whacked it home for the 4-1 final. This goal was Lindholm's third of the season and his second in the past five games.
David Pastrnak on the opening period and his goal: "The first period was huge for us. We knew they hadn't played for a while, so we were focusing on trying to jump on them in the first, and it worked out," - "I got it on the boards, and I was working at what's open. Just was going towards the net... tried to make a quick move to the forehand to move Andersen to far-side and it worked out perfectly."
Brad Marchand on reaching his 400th NHL career goal milestone: "It was good. Lately, trying not to think about it but obviously, it was kind of an elephant in the room - nice to get it, and don't have to worry about it anymore. It's nice that we had a really good game to follow it up and a big road trip. So, it's a good night."
Notes:
- With his 400th NHL goal, Brad Marchand had become the fifth player in franchise history to reach this mark. He joins Johnny Bucyk (545), Phil Esposito (459), Patrice Bergeron (427), and Rick Middleton (402).
- Marchand had gone a total of 10 games without scoring a goal.
- Both Danton Heinen and David Pastrnak recorded a goal and an assist, and Pavel Zacha recorded two assists.
Zacha had extended his point and assist streaks to five games (two goals, six assists).
- The Carolina Hurricanes stayed behind by five points from the New York Rangers for first place in the Metropolitan Division with six games left.
- Frederik Andersen played in his 100th game with the Carolina Hurricanes. He is 67-27-4.
- Carolina was 4-for-4 on the penalty kill and held opponents without a power-play goal in 14 of their previous 15 games.
