Penguins Secure 2nd Straight Victory Against Flyers

  After dropping the first three games to the Philadelphia Flyers, the Pittsburgh Penguins are officially making things interesting. The Penguins secured their second straight victory in Game 5 on Monday at PPG Paints Arena, defeating the Flyers in a nail-biting 3-2 win to keep their season alive. Sidney Crosby fueled the comeback with a pair of assists, while Elmer Soderblom, Connor Dewar, and Kris Letang each found the back of the net. Following a 4-2 win in Game 4, Pittsburgh has now cut the series lead to 3-2 and will look to force a decisive Game 7 when they travel back to Philadelphia on Wednesday. Flames End a Three-Game Skid in OT Against the Sharks 4/9/24

   The Flames visited the Sharks on Tuesday, April 9th at the SAP Center to secure a 3-2 overtime victory to put an end to their three-game skid. It had been the second game straight the Sharks had lost following a 3-2 overtime win against the St. Louis Blues on Saturday. Andrei Kuzmenko scored the game-winning goal with his 18th goal of the season. The Calgary Flames will take on the Los Angeles Kings and the San Jose Sharks will visit the Seattle Kraken on Thursday.

   Both William Eklund and Jacob MacDonald scored for the Sharks, which had been the first two players to score in the game to give San Jose a strong start before the Flames began to fight back in the second period. Eklund's goal came in the first period, and then MacDonald extended the Sharks' lead in the second, where Calgary came in to tie it 2-2. Nazem Kadri cut it and Rasmus Andersson tied it.


   The third period had been scoreless as they remained stuck in the 2-2 tie, heading into overtime to determine the game-winner. In overtime at 2:02, Andrei Kuzmenko called game on a power play when he collected a rebound close to the left post and scored past Mackenzie Blackwood. He currently has 11 points during a six-game point streak (five goals, six assists). The Sharks were outshot in both the third and overtime 18-4.

Dustin Wolf made a total of 20 saves for Calgary, and Mackenzie Blackwood made 38 saves for San Jose.




Notes:

- Mikael Granlund recorded the secondary assist on William Eklund's goal, extending his point streak to nine games (two goals, eight assists).
