Jerez Preview: Can Anyone Stop the #72?

Lately, Marco Bezzecchi is making winning look easy. With a flawless hat trick of victories in Thailand, Brazil, and the USA, the #72 has treated the early-season standings like his own personal victory lap. Next stop: Jerez. Will the win streak continue in Spain, or can anyone actually disrupt the rhythm of Bez? The "Global Takeover" in Three Acts: Thailand: To open the season in Buriram, Bezzecchi converted a dominant pole position into a Sunday masterclass. Every lap was led by him, crossing the finish line with a 5.5-second cushion over Pedro Acosta, setting the tone for a flawless start to the season. Brazil: In a treacherous race in Goiânia that was shortened due to track degradation concerns, Bez pulled an ambush at the first corner. He kept his cool on a track that felt more like a gravel pit than a circuit, bringing home back-to-back wins from second on the grid. USA: At COTA - the most technical track they face - Bezzecchi proved he could win anywhere. He...

Conor Geekie's Bold First Impression

Conor Geekie earned his spot on Tampa Bay's season-opening roster on Friday, October 11th against the Carolina Hurricanes, the game taking place in Carolina at the Lenovo Center. Geekie was drafted in the first round, 11th overall, by the Arizona Coyotes in the 2022 NHL entry draft. He had been acquired by the Tampa Bay Lightning from the Utah Hockey Club in a blockbuster trade that involved defenseman and two-time Stanley Cup champion, Mikhail Sergachev.

Geekie made a bold and daring first impression during pre-season, making his presence known with his desire to defend, which became extremely clear during a fierce game against the Florida Panthers.

It began when captain Victor Hedman took an open-ice hit from Florida's Josh Davies early in the middle frame. Nikita Kucherov was the first to step in, dropping gloves and jumping onto Davies without a second thought, which resulted in him getting a two-minute penalty for roughing. This response by Kucherov definitely was a signal that the Lightning won't tolerate hits on their captain, however, Conor Geekie's involvement is what really left a mark.

Geekie came off the bench off a line change and decided to send a message to the Florida Panthers.

He ignored the rhythm of the game, zeroed in on Davies, cross-checked him, and forced him into a fight. Geekie did not hesitate and didn't give Josh Davies a chance, instead, he pummelled Davies like a sitting duck. The Lightning rookie obtained 19 penalty minutes, along with a 10-minute misconduct for instigation... Geekie's actions also resulted in a one-game suspension, however, his commitment to stand up and defend his teammates was totally worth it.
