Minty Fresh Finish: Bruins Edge Blackhawks 4-3 in Overtime Thriller

 







The Boston Bruins improved to 2-0-0 on the young season after Fraser Minten sealed a 4-3 overtime victory against the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday night. The win, coming off a 3-1 defeat of the Capitals on Wednesday, was far from easy, as the Blackhawks pushed back hard in their second straight loss of the year. While Chicago standout Connor Bedard notched his highly anticipated first goal of the season, Minten provided the final answer in the extra period to secure the two points for Boston.

Casey Mittelstadt got it started early at 16:07 in the opening frame when he jammed it in past Arvid Soderblom when a centering pass backhand by Viktor Arvidsson was loose in front, putting Boston ahead 1-0. At 11:42, Connor Bedard unleashed a one-timer from the left face-off circle past Joonas Korpisalo for his first of the season and to knot it up 1-1 after Andre Burakovsky made a tape-to-tape pass from the bottom of the right face-off circle.


Chicago got their first lead of the night, 2-1, when Louis Crevier found his first goal of the season, scoring on a wrist shot at 17:38 of the second. He fired from the top of the right face-off circle, his wrister deflecting off Tanner Jeannot and over the shoulder of Korpisalo, glove side. Off the rebound of a shot by Michael Eyssimont, Jeannot tied it 2-2 when he knocked in the rebound short-side at 10:50.


Elias Lindholm swept in a loose puck for the 3-2 lead in the crease in the third, the Bruins on a 5-on-3 power play, and he scored just 15 seconds in after Pavel Zacha handed the puck over from the right side of the net. For his first as a Blackhawk, Burakovsky picked up his second point of the night when he tied it 3-3 not long after Lindholm's power-play goal. He scored on a snap shot at 17:38 from the high slot after Frank Nazar, on the left side, passed across to Artyom Levshunov, who handed it over to Burakovsky for the third Chicago goal of the night.


Fraser Minten called game at 2:48 in overtime when he got hold of the puck in the corner from Boston's zone, drove up the ice through the neutral zone, keeping the puck on a 2-on-1, and went far side from the right face-off circle for the 4-3 victory.






Notes:

- Joonas Korpisalo made a total of 21 saves in his season debut, including several timely stops in overtime.

- Arvid Soderblom made a total of 29 saves for Chicago.

- Both Connor Bedard and Andre Burakovsky had a two-point night, each picking up a goal and an assist. ...Burakovsky was acquired in a trade from the Seattle Kraken on June 21.

- Hampus Lindholm exited the game late in the first period, forcing the Bruins to play with five defensemen for the remainder of the game. He left with a lower-body injury. Lindholm had missed most of the 2024-25 season after suffering a season-ending knee injury in November 2024.

- Jason Dickinson did not finish the game, and there is currently no update.
