Jerez Preview: Can Anyone Stop the #72?

Lately, Marco Bezzecchi is making winning look easy. With a flawless hat trick of victories in Thailand, Brazil, and the USA, the #72 has treated the early-season standings like his own personal victory lap. Next stop: Jerez. The "Global Takeover" in Three Acts: Thailand: To open the season in Buriram, Bezzecchi converted a dominant pole position into a Sunday masterclass. Every lap was led by him, crossing the finish line with a 5.5-second cushion over Pedro Acosta, setting the tone for a flawless start to the season. Brazil: In a treacherous race in Goiânia that was shortened due to track degradation concerns, Bez pulled an ambush at the first corner. He kept his cool on a track that felt more like a gravel pit than a circuit, bringing home back-to-back wins from second on the grid. USA: At COTA - the most technical track they face - Bezzecchi proved he could win anywhere. He...

Jenn Gardiner opened the scoring with just seconds remaining in the first period, giving Vancouver a 1-0 lead with her third goal of the season. Right off the face-off, she fired from the left side, slipping in a low wrister inside the back post.

With 6:20 left to play in the middle frame, Jessie Eldridge put Seattle on the board to tie it 1-1, picking up her fourth goal of the season when she beat Emerance Maschmeyer after she took a stretch pass from Julia Gosling, who sent it to Eldridge from the right side along the wall after getting the puck from Anna Wilgren.

Izzy Daniel broke the tie, putting the Goldeneyes back in front 2-1 at 13:37 of the third period when she tapped in the rebound of a shot from Gardiner, who fired from above the left circle, and it bounced out where Hannah Miller grabbed it, making a quick backhanded pass to Daniel for her to put it behind Hannah Murphy for her fourth of the season. With 6:18 to go, Michelle Karvinen scored to make it 3-1 when she intercepted a pass, keeping the puck from Hilary Knight and Alex Carpenter, and Sarah Nurse picked it up and gave it to Tereza Vanisova, who drove toward the net from the right side and fired. Karvinen stuffed the rebound in between Murphy's pads in front. This was Karvinen's second goal of the season.
