Kadirova, Elridge Each Score Two, Torrent Falls 4-3 To Charge

  Photo via Seattle Torrent/PWHL The Torrent suffered their fourth straight loss when they took on the Ottawa Charge on Wednesday at TD Place, losing 4-3. Seattle came alive in the second period behind two goals from Jessie Eldridge. Alex Carpenter, who made history scoring the first-ever penalty shot goal in PWHL history, tied the game before Ottawa took the lead back with little time to play. Fanuza Kadirova found the back of the net twice for the Charge. Alexa Vasko and Emily Clark also scored to help secure the victory. The Torrent will look to regroup before hosting the Boston Fleet on March 11, while the Charge travel to the Prudential Center on Sunday for a showdown with the New York Sirens. Eriksson Ek, Boldy Each Score Twice in 5-2 Win Against Avalanche

 





Returning from the Olympic break, the Wild took on the Avalanche, who played their first game back on Wednesday, defeating the Utah Mammoth 4-2, at Ball Arena on Thursday. The Wild stayed hot, earning their sixth straight victory and ending Colorado's two-game winning streak. Joel Eriksson Ek and Matt Boldy led Minnesota to their 5-2 win, each finding the back of the net twice. Mats Zuccarello also scored for the Wild. Martin Necas scored both goals for the Avalanche. On Friday, the Wild will be in Utah to take on the Mammoth, while the Avalanche is back at it on Saturday to host the Chicago Blackhawks.

At 12:12 of the opening frame, Joel Eriksson Ek scored his 16th goal of the season, getting the Wild on the board first, 1-0. He collected the rebound of Matt Boldy's initial shot off MacKenzie Blackwood's right pad and ripped it into the open net.


Martin Necas knotted it up 1-1 late in the second period, recording his 24th of the season when Nathan MacKinnon gave him a drop pass as they both entered Minnesota's end, and Necas fired from the right dot on a wrist shot that went top shelf short side with 6:30 to go. At 2:23, Eriksson Ek put the Wild back in front 2-1, scoring another power-play goal for his 15th of the season when his centering pass from below the right circle had caromed off Blackwood's right foot and went in five-hole.


Late in the third period with 4:52 on the clock, Mats Zuccarello extended Minnesota's lead to 3-1, collecting his 10th goal of the season after his cross-crease pass ended up banking off Sam Malinski's skate in his own crease, going past Blackwood's left leg. Matt Boldy intercepted MacKinnon's crossing pass near the blue line, scoring short-handed into the empty Colorado net to make it 4-1. Necas found the back of the net for his second goal of the night and his 25th of the season, cutting it to 4-2 when he one-timed a crossing pass short side. Boldy scored another empty-netter for the 5-2 final, recording his 34th goal of the season.







Notes:

- Before being replaced by Jesper Wallstedt, Filip Gustavsson made 44 saves for Minnesota. Wallstedt allowed one on two shots in 1:04 of relief.

- MacKenzie Blackwood made a total of 31 saves for Colorado.

- The Wild's game-opening goal was on the power play. They have a 30.4 power-play rate since Quinn Hughes made his debut on December 14th. The only other team with a higher rate over that span is the Edmonton Oilers (32.1%).

- With his two-goal night, Joel Eriksson Ek recorded his 14th multi-goal game with the Wild, tying Nino Niederreiter for the eighth most in team history.

- Matt Boldy had a four-point night, recording two goals and collecting a pair of assists. ...Boldy (2-0--2) recorded his 29th career multi-assist game, surpassing Andrew Brunette for the 10th most in franchise history. He also recorded his fifth career four-point game (2-2--4), tying Mats Zuccarello for the second most in franchise history behind Marian Gaborik (7 GP). Boldy is the first player in Minnesota Wild history to record four or more points in consecutive games.

- Kirill Kaprizov recorded two assists.

- Quinn Hughes extended his point and assist streaks to 11 games. ...With his assist on Joel Eriksson Ek's goal, becoming the third player over the last five seasons to record a point streak of 11 or more games in their first season with the franchise. The others: Mikael Granlund (13 GP w/ SJS in 2023-24) and Pavel Buchnevich (12 GP w/ STL in 2021-22).

- Nathan MacKinnon recorded two assists.

- The Wild is 35-14-10, and are 7-0-1 in their past eight games.

- The Avalanche is 38-10-9, and had won three of four, including their 4-2 win against the Utah Mammoth on Wednesday.

- At 9:33 of the second period, Joel Kiviranta left the game after a hit from Zach Bogosian in the offensive zone and did not return for the remainder of the game.
