Early in the opening frame, Macklin Celebrini put Canada on the board to give them a 1-0 lead at 16:55 after taking a drop pass by Connor McDavid to hammer it home past Lukas Dostal for his tournament-leading fifth goal. Lukas Sedlak knotted it up 1-1 at 11:26 of the first period when a puck from Radko Gudas to Roman Cervenka, who passed it to Sedlak, deflected in off Sedlak's skate after he drove hard to the front of the net. With 5:11 to go, David Pastrnak found the back of the net with a power-play goal to put Czechia ahead 2-1 when Cervenka made a pass to the point where Filip Hronek collected it and dished it to Pastrnak at the right face-off dot of Binnington for a successful one-timer.
Nathan MacKinnon tied it back up 2-2 with 7:44 on the clock in the middle frame while Michal Kempny was in the penalty box for an offensive-zone interference penalty, scoring a power-play goal off a pass from McDavid in the slot to bury it past Dostal. Celebrini also assisted.
With 7:42 remaining in the third period, Ondrej Palat took a pass from Martin Necas, who got the puck from Tomas Hertl, and Palat put in a one-timer to make it 3-2. Nick Suzuki quickly tied it 3-3 to grab extra time at 3:27 of the third off a pass from Devon Toews.
Mitch Marner got the puck from Celebrini, who received it from Thomas Harley, and Marner put it home for the 4-3 victory 1:22 into overtime.
